Leadership
We believe that Christ rules over and takes care of His church through ordained officers known in Scripture as elders and deacons.
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the elders and deacons... (Phil. 1:1)
ELDERS
Qualifications: Titus 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you— 6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

Office: Elders (also known as pastors) are those men whom the congregation chooses to watch over them spiritually, to lead them in the public worship of God, to feed them the Word of God both publicly and privately, to administer the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and to guard the church from doctrinal or practical dangers. These elders are to be chosen in accordance with the requirements for such an office which are set forth in Scripture (e.g., 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5, etc.). A plurality of elders is not only the Biblical pattern, but also a true blessing from the Lord. These elders may differ from one another in experience and gifts, and one or two may labor more often in the preaching ministry than the others, but they are all equal in authority and title. The Apostle Paul teaches in Ephesians 4 that pastors and teachers are gifts from the exalted Christ to His church and are therefore to be highly esteemed for their work’s sake.
Pastor Jason Edwards grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, South America, attending public schools in Portuguese from ages 4-16. He and Andrea have been married since 2007 and enjoy the blessing of raising their four kids together. His calling to the ministry was kindled, encouraged, and affirmed within the local church. Christ further equipped him for ministry through Theological University Apeldoorn, Netherlands (PhD), London Reformed Baptist Seminary, UK, Trinity Western University, British Columbia. Pastor Jason loves to see people behold God's goodness and glory through Christ on every page of the Bible. "Neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who causes the growth." (1 Cor. 3:7)

Note: A plurality of elders is the biblical expectation. RHC currently has several mature men being equipped, one of which is under official testing for the office of elder.
DEACONS
Qualifications: 1 Timothy 3:8 Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. 10 But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. 11 Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Office: Deacons are those men whom the congregation chooses to watch over the church’s physical concerns. We find the first proto-deacons being ordained in Acts 6 to free up the proto-elders (the apostles) to devote themselves more fully to the ministry of the Word and prayer, without distraction. Deacons, therefore, are a tremendous blessing from the Lord not only to the people, but also to the pastors. We see in these two offices of elder and deacon the two-fold care and concern of the Good and Great Shepherd, Jesus. Through the ministry of elders, Jesus cares for His church’s spiritual needs, and through the ministry of deacons, Jesus cares for His church’s physical needs.
Dan Song was born in Seoul, Korea but mostly grew up in New York City and Southern California. He and his wife, May, have been married since 2012 and are grateful for the blessing of raising their two children together. Dan loves serving Christ’s church and seeks to live out the call of 1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” He is honored to serve as a deacon and chief musician, caring for members in need, and practicing hospitality within the church family.
